November's monthly theme is Gratitude! Read below for our WAAV Creative Ambika's take on this month's theme.

Each November, I’m reminded of the things I’m grateful for in my everyday life. It becomes more than just thinking of things I’m thankful for on thanksgiving, and spreads into how I express gratitude every day of the month. So in honor of this months challenge, I’ll share some of the things I’m grateful for, and how I choose to express it throughout my everyday life.

To start, I’ll get the obvious out of the way— I’m thankful for my family, my friends, the roof over my head, and food on my table. Each week I’ll try to connect with my friends and family, and let them know how much they mean to me. Whether it’s a short “thinking of you” text, or a “hey, I just want to check in” message, I try to make sure that I’m being present for the people I care about.

When it comes to food I just feel wildly thankful to even have the security and ability to cook a thanksgiving meal. I know of many that aren’t in the same situation as I am, and so every year since I was 14 years old, I choose to volunteer my thanksgiving morning to a local program that plans to distribute meals to those in need. It’s something small, but it means a lot to me to be able to express my gratitude for others through this.

Expressing gratitude also comes in other ways! It could be through just words of affirmation to yourself! One personal challenge I took on this year was to learn how to be kinder to myself, and so by expressing gratitude to myself, I feel like I can do that. For example, I lost my mobility last year, and recently gained it back through my medical journey and physical therapy, so sometimes, I wake up and say words of affirmation to myself and to my legs for never giving up on me. I went through a pretty rough patch last year when that happened, and so it felt like the least I could do was express gratitude to my legs for carrying me through each day.

So yeah! Expressing gratitude can come in all types of forms! Externally to the people and things you care about, and internally, about the parts of yourself that you’re proud of. I love that this month’s theme is centered around giving thanks, and I hope that y’all join me in this challenge!

Catch you next month!

Thank you,

Ambika
