The Beginning of WAAV (BTS, from my perspective)

The Beginning of WAAV (BTS, from my perspective)

From the start, WAAV was always meant to be a platform that amplified the voices of our generation. We created it as a tool to help us learn more about ourselves, about the world around us, and about how we could do our part in creating a better future. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly one thing that makes WAAV what it is— and I think the beauty is in how there’s no rush to be easily defined anyways. It’s a lot like how we see ourselves, really-- we don’t need to be labeled by a single phrase, we do lots of things, and we mean to do good.

On a more personal level, I’ll admit that in some ways, WAAV also ended up becoming an extension of me and my own journey. The individual elements all came together to represent parts of who I am, who I want to be, and how badly I want to help make things better in the world. In helping develop this project, I learned that I’m not alone in being passionate about things like self-discovery, wellness, and activism. Through a lot of research (and some pretty intense doom-scrolling), my team and I realized that there are plenty of other folks who are navigating these things too, and who also care about growing as a person. So, it just made sense to make a community for us! WAAV is a passion project, turned full-time job, turned complete team effort—and now, I am so excited to say that it’s real.

I suppose for this to be an actual “Behind the Scenes” story from my perspective, I should reveal something fun about how we landed on the name, “WAAV”. Once we had the green light to actually create something from our ideas, my team and I got to work on giving it a name. It was important for us to choose a word that meant more than what could be read at face value, because if the project was meant to be more than a label, then our name should be too. We were determined to incorporate a word that embodied the idea of “change,” and during one of our meetings, someone had mentioned ocean waves, and how cool it is that water always changes things. “Wave,” started to look like the perfect fit, but the only thing missing was how we’d connect it back to our overall goal of empowering people. So, that’s how our acronym came into play! The double-vowel seemed to make things more fun, so after playing around with a few different versions, we landed on the phrase “We Are All Visionaries,” long for “WAAV.”

From there, we created the logo (hoping to make it look flowy like a real wave), and then the site, and now *drumroll PLEASE* the planner! It just made sense to put all of these ideas onto (eco-friendly) paper, and the best way for us to create a day-to-day tool was by creating a day-to-day planner that incorporates all of these elements! Since there’s so much to cover in a year, we organized our ideas by each month and created interesting themes to help encourage self-care and worldly awareness.

This is my first time working on something as cool and unique as WAAV, and I’m really stoked to share it with everyone. All of the time, energy, and passion that went into our development are present in every aspect of the brand, and I’m proud of what we made. From our “behind the scenes” beginning of WAAV to our official “it exists and it’s out in the world” beginning, we hope that this project actually does what we meant for it to do— help each of us grow, together.

Cheers,
Ambika
