Monthly Holiday Explanations:
- 1/16 World Religion Day
- Each year since 1950, the third Sunday in January is recognized as World Religion Day! This day was founded on the principles of the Baha'i faith and highlight the idea that the spiritual principles underlying the world's religions are harmonious and have the power to help unify humanity!
- 1/17 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- Today we recognize the incredible life and birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! Every third Monday of January since 1983 has been federally recognized as a holiday in honor of Dr. King’s inspiring work in activism and advocating for Civil Rights. On days like today (and every day, really), we are reminded of how powerful it is to stand up against injustice.
- 1/19 National Popcorn Day
- Happy National Popcorn Day! This fun holiday was inspired by the best movie theater snack around! Grab a bag (or bucket!) of popcorn today and celebrate the history behind this beloved Aztec snack!
- 1/27 International Holocaust Remembrance Day
- This commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews by Nazi Germany between 1941 and 1945. January 27th marks the day that the Auschwitz prison camp was liberated in 1945.
